Ultra-Durable Label Materials

Do your patient or clinical samples scan first time? Does the data printed on the label remain permanent even after handling and storage within a freezer? If not, we can help you achieve both of these goals.
Historically paper labels have been used within the laboratory, that in reality perform poorly when stored in extreme conditions. The ink on the labels smudges when coming into contact with water and / or solvents and the adhesive generally is not rated to use in anything below – 40C.
If you are still handwriting onto a sample label, stop! It’s not reliable, it’s not durable and generally, the information can be compromised when handwritten. Causing problems such as illegible data, which in turn is a waste of time and resources if having to rerun tests and replace labels.
By handwriting you are also eliminating the quickest and most reliable method for complex data – barcodes or 2D codes, both reliable and efficient for the processing of samples and recording of data. These can be scanned directly into worksheets, capturing data for future recall and auditing requirements. For any laboratory handling batch volumes of samples, we would suggest this as a minimum requirement for effective use of lab time.
We can recommend reliable options for the labelling of all sample tubes, slides and other containers used within the laboratory that are handled in extreme environments. Introducing more suitable, durable label materials and adhesives that perform well in extreme environments, is the start to effective labelling within the laboratory.
We can guide you on the most suitable label materials that offer enhanced chemical resistance, ensuring text and barcodes remain legible and crisp and scan first time. Specialist polyester coated materials allow ultra-durable print to key to the surface whilst maintaining durability against solvents and handling.
For long term storage in – 80C freezers, including storage in liquid nitrogen, we can also recommend a suitable label option to ensure labels remain in place on the tube or container. This offers reassurance that your archived samples will remain as legible when removed as they were when they were first printed and placed into storage.
