Etch your details onto work tools

Sergeant Andy Paulden of Newport Pagnell police station in Milton Keynes said he “strongly” advises people to consider etching their details on to their equipment, which could be done using CNC engraving machinery, reported mk-news.co.uk.

As well as making tools easier to trace back to their owners, an engraving can also act as a deterrent to thieves, according to Sergeant Paulden, who made his comments following a theft in Olney.

He added: “Often people invite thieves to take an interest in their vehicle by leaving valuable items in open view. Thieves also know that people leave laptops and bags in the boots of their cars so it’s not safe to leave anything valuable in your car.

Miltonkeynes.co.uk noted that police are appealing for witnesses to come forward to help them with the Olney theft, which saw a number of pieces of gardening equipment stolen from a Peugeot van. The vehicle was unlocked at the time that the machinery was stolen.

Among the tips issued by Thames Valley Police following the incident were for motorists to make sure they lock their cars, remove sat-navs from the windshield and to look out for their neighbours’ best interests by keeping an eye on their automobiles if they are away.
