Hunterian Museum Bespoke Engraving

Hunterian Museum Bespoke Engraving

Case Studies

We were sub-contracted by BECK Interiors to undertake the precision laser engraving of porcelain tiles for the Museum floor of the Hunterian Museum at The Royal College of Surgeons of England.

The Hunterian Museum is a museum of anatomical specimens in London, located in the building of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. The RCS building is currently undergoing a major redevelopment and will open again to the public in early 2023.

Meanwhile, management consultancy Fraser Randall are heading up the project management of the Hunterian museum alongside a host of leading museum specialist designers and contractors. The post war buildings are being demolished and a new building designed by award winning architects Hawkins Brown will be erected. The Royal College of Surgeons collections will be displayed throughout the new building.

Fraser Randall’s scope includes the management of the shell and core works to the museum space as well as the eight separate galleries exploring the history of surgery, contemporary surgical practice and related disciplines. When complete, the Museum will feature the exceptional anatomy collection of John Hunter, the 18th century surgeon/anatomist who promoted evidence based medical practice.

The Museum as a whole, is a place of medical marvel, and we are thrilled to be project and cost managing its re-presentation and working alongside a host of leading museum specialist designers and contractors.

We were subcontracted by BECK Interiors to deep laser engrave 1200mm square porcelain tiles, the 100mm high lettering had to be precision laser engraved several times to create a depth in which individually cut stainless steel letters could be seamlessly inlaid. The tiles are to be installed as wayfinding / signage for the different sections within the museum.

We are currently working closely with the designers and contractors on more exciting projects for the Hunterian Museum.
