We will still currently offer products from both catalogues until we merge these into one, and you can find all the Fine Cut catalogue products in pdf format as well as the P&S catalogue for download below.

How it began

P&S Engraving has a heritage dating back to the 1960’s where founders Roy Pettitt and Brian Skilton were apprentices and learned the craft of relief engraving at J&W Blewett. In these years, the two developed their skills and subsequently began passing these skills down to new apprentices, including one named Peter Tyler.

In the early 1980’s J&W Blewett closed and the 3 went their separate ways. Roy and Brian became partners and formed P&S Engraving in 1980 which became synonymous with quality tools within the world of bookbinding. Peter Tyler left and formed Fine Cut (then called Fine Cut Precision).

For over 35 years, the two firms would remain familiar and on occasion they would lean on the others skill sets & capabilities to fulfil a particular clients need. Fine Cut diversified from hand engraving to offer printing, cutting and all the other services you see available today. Whilst diversification was profound, manufacturing and providing bookbinding tools remained a pillar of Fine Cut’s range of products. In 2005, Fine Cut was awarded the Royal Warrant for providing Foil Stamping Tools.

The story so far

Decades later after Brian had to retire early due to ill health, and Roy wanted to slow down, he and Peter met to agree on the handover of P&S Engraving. In 2017 Roy was looking to enjoy his retirement after a long and dutiful career, but the long established P&S Engraving needed to be passed onto a reliable company to ensure customers could continue to rely on the name. A deal was quickly found to satisfy both parties and Roy was able to retire in 2017.

We sadly lost Roy to a cancer battle in 2019 – robbed of a long and happy retirement he had hoped for. When becoming part of the Fine Cut Group, we promised Roy one important thing. That we would keep the P&S name as homage to the good name that Roy & Brian had built. And we continue to do this even after the loss of both founders from the business.

P&S Engraving will remain under the stewardship of Fine Cut for many years to come and the capabilities of both companies can merge to offer customers unmatched capabilities and skill.

Alongside our catalogue we also welcome custom die orders.
