Fine Cuts Fittest (?)
The ladies of Fine Cut Graphic Imaging Ltd have recently run the 'Race For Life' charity event at Stanmer Park, Brighton.
All of them sported the events bright pink shirts - as can be seen from the photo opposite. The event is held across the country and this particular race attracted 3000 women who walk, jog or run the 5k track.
Fine Cut is proud to have had the chance to take part in the event and particulary proud of our employees that took part. For their efforts they managed to raise a massive £600 for the charity which I am sure you will agree is a fantastic sum. We would also like to thank any of you who kindly sponsored them.
Fine Cut's Marathon Man
Tony Southam of the Hotfoil Printing department has completed the inaugural Brighton marathon in his best ever time.
Tony, running in aid of 'Guide dogs for the blind', beat his best ever marathon time - completing the course in a impressive 3 hours 27 minutes. All of us at Fine Cut would like to congratulate Tony in his amazing achievement and thank anyone who has sponsored and supported his fund raising.

The book has been bound beautifully and decorated elaborately with mid-green goatskin, gilt edges and gold detail. Mark Harrison commented "I was influenced by the Arts & Crafts style, the words 'gold' or 'golden' occur ten times in the text"
Mark will receive the Fine Cut trophy as well as £100 of bookbinding supplies vouchers which can be redeemed from our extensive range of bookbinding equipment.

Dean will predominately be dealing with our screen print, digital printed labels and new identification and badging offerings - so if you have any requirement please get in touch now and Dean or one of our other helpful consultants will be able to advise on the best solution to meet your label or marking requirement.
Personalised Labels
Why not take advantage of Fine Cut's experience in the manufacture of personalised labels.
Fine Cut can now offer the ability to personalise each and every label as you require. Perhaps you need a photograph of different employees to appear on individual labels or maybe you simply need to consecutively number each label for product tracking or asset management.
With Fine Cut's Direct Digital Process (DDP) this is now possible, so why not request a quote for your next label project as you can rest assured that you will still receive the quality finish that Fine Cut is renowned for with the added benefit of any personalisation or serialisation that you require.
QA Manager 21st Birthday Charity Skydive
Jack pollard, Fine Cut's QA Manager, as now completed his charity skydive. Heres his story...
"My 21st started with a two hour journey to Salisbury to a small place called Sarum airfield. I arrived at 8:30am with my family eager to watch. Sunny but chilly conditions I signed in and met the crazy team at the skydive centre. After watching the promotional video (including statistics on safety 1 in 370 people have an injury!) it was a short delay until the briefing. I had a coffee whilst mulling over my crazy idea and watched a few people having flying lessons.
Around 9.30 I had a briefing with Gordon (the crazy South African organiser) on the body position I had to adopt in the plane and when freefalling through the sky.
I then went back inside and paid in my various monies for the charity and jump. Another to signatures and disclaimers later I was ready for the call!
Another hour went by so we cracked out the picnic, during this time I watched a few people parachuting and all the people that I had training with had all been up (and come down)
Around 11 o’clock I got the call it was my turn soon so got the gear on. A lovely blue all in one with funny leg pieces followed by harnesses, a leather cap and plastic goggles and I was all set to go.
I met Jim, the guy I was going to be attached to. With him having done 6998 jumps I felt a little better.
5 minutes of pictures and waiting and he said we had to go as the plane was on its way back down. A short drive around to the other side of the field and we were ready.
Gordon and a lady touched down a it was looking like we were going to have to go on a hold as conditions were changing. The pilot radioed and said conditions were fine and Jim was happy to do it.
The plane landed and we climbed aboard. The plane took off and we started the climb to 10,000 feet (in a plane held together with tape!)
Finch the camera man took some footage before Jim told me its time to be strapped together.
Through the clouds we went looking pretty high before Jim shows me his watch and we are only at 5000 feet.
Once at 10,000 ft the pilot shouted over the roar of the engine that we had 30 seconds. I put my hat and goggles on and my heart began to race.
Finch opened the roller door and clambered to the outside of the plane, no going back now Jim and I swung our legs over the edge of the plane.
Looking down out of the plane I got a tap on the shoulder, crossed my arms.
WE JUMP!!!!!!!
Amazing we drop 4500 ft in what seems like 10 seconds over 100mph its an experience that cant be described.
Hurtling towards the ground with finch doing spins below and filming myself and jim, Tings suddenly slowed down and the parachute had opened. Everything is still and calm, no noise at all.
Jim guides me through steering and lets me take the controls. We slowly drift down and prepare to land. Feet up and arms raised with a sharp yank of the ropes at the last second and we touch effortlessly on the ground.
Before I have time to think Jim and Finch have packed up their chutes and are back in the plane to do it again!
What an amazing experience would love to do it again.
A big thank you to everyone that sponsored me I have raised hundreds of pounds for the great charity, The Alzheimer’s society."

Jeremy Gumbley
.jpg)
Fine Cut's sponsorship of Jeremy Gumbley in the 2008 Seat Cupra Championship was a fantastic venture into the world of high octane motorsport. Sadly the championship was discontinued in 2009 but Jeremy continues to be involved in motorsport so be sure to check on his progress and where he is winning races, just visit www.jeremygumbley.com. Finishing with a very respectable 102 points in his final season with Seat, means that it won't be long before we are all enjoying the speed of Jeremy's driving once again.
Top Five Tips for Durable Product Labelling
1. Ensure that the product surface is clean and you utilise the smoothest and flattest area on the product. Make sure you request the appropriate adhesive for irregular or cylindrical surfaces.
2. For maximum durability use either under surface technology printing such as screen printing, digital printing or hot foil printing (laminated).
3. To achieve the ultimate performance on thermal transfer printed labels it is imperative that the correct material, ribbon, speed and temperature settings are adhered to.
4. For external environments or extreme internal environments use Stainless Steel, Aluminium or Polyester labels.
5. To achieve a vibrant colour print and increased durability consider under surface printing onto Polycarbonate via a dedicated digital print press.

CELEBRATING 25 YEARS
This year Fine Cut are proud to be celebrating 25 years in business. From small beginnings back in the 80's the company has grown to over 40 employees based at the current site in Lancing.
We continue to strive towards excellent service and quality customer care and our investment in new machinery and up to date technology mean we can keep one step ahead of the competition to meet customer needs.
Some of our employees have been with us since those early days - most of them still look the same apart from a few more grey hairs!
Many of our local customers will remember Lancing in the 80's and will no doubt have their own fond memories of the area as it was then but, although times change, we should all look forward to the continuing development of the area.
We are still one big happy family here and like to boast a very happy and contented workforce - here's to the next 25 years!
KEEPING FIT - UPDATE
All of us here would like to congratulate Mervyn on once more completing Walk the Wight, an annual charity walk across the Isle of Wight for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
Not only did Mervyn beat his best time by a staggering 2 hours, but he also managed to surpass his previous sponsorship total, collecting £823.30 in donations for the worthy cause.
Mervyn and all of us here at Fine Cut would like to thank all those that donated, and we will look forward to next year when we can spur Mervyn on once more.
Many thanks again for your support.
SOUTHERN MANUFACTURING
Once again we had a stand at the Southern Manufacturing Show which this year was held at the new venue in Farnborough.
We had a great two days and managed to catch up with some of our existing customers as well as making lots of new contacts.
Colin, Wendy and Peter Kirby donned their brand new Fine Cut shirts and smiled and chatted with the visitors. We did take some pictures - but unfortunately our camera was stolen on the last day - so alas, no nice pictures of the stand to show you.
We will be there again next year though - so if we didn't get chance to see you this year we hope to see you then.
MULTI TALENTED
Our Assistant Manager, John Saunders is also a talented musician. Carphead and its sister site Instrucarp, the latter of which is connected to HDFEST, is a company where movie makers and musicians can meet. John regularly contributes to both. Follow this link to hear his soundtrack music.
